HBO Therapy

Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy is a non-invasive treatment that increases the amount of oxygen within the blood and tissues through exposure to 100% oxygen from purified air.

What is HBO Therapy?

Non-invasive and pain-free, HBO therapy is a way to promote natural healing (from both injuries and health conditions) as well as boost your overall health and wellbeing by dramatically increasing the amount of oxygen the body absorbs.

HBO therapy involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurised environment – otherwise known as an hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber. Within this chamber, air pressure is increased by two or three times the amount as normal; this allows the lungs to absorb much more oxygen than under normal air pressure conditions. This increased oxygen content is then carried around the body by the blood, promoting healing in the process. Each session lasts from 30 to 90 minutes.

How does HBO Therapy Work?

Our bodies depend on an adequate amount of oxygen for healthy tissue function. A lack of oxygen can decrease blood flow, damage tissues, slow the healing of wounds or injuries and lower the body’s natural immune system. It can also cause early onset of ageing, causing thinning of the hair and the slowing of collagen production.

Lowered oxygen levels can be the result of injury, illness, ageing or environmental facotrs. To counteract this, HBO therapy works by increasing the amount of oxygen present within the body. Doing so helps to replenish oxygen-starved tissues with oxygen-rich plasma through the blood. Repeated HBO therapy sessions not only increase the amount of oxygen within tissues, but can also encourage the normal absorption of oxygen in the long term, even after treatment is finished.

Who Can Benefit from HBO Therapy?

HBO therapy is beneficial for a number of different issues or conditions.

It can be beneficial for those suffering from medical conditions such as severe anaemia, carbon monoxide poisoning, air bubbles trapped in the blood vessels – plus many, many more. It can also help to speed up the healing of injuries (like wounds or burns) as well as the healing from aesthetic treatments or plastic surgery.

Finally, HBO therapy can be used as an anti-ageing treatment, as it promotes the production of collagen and elastin within the skin. This improves skin elasticity and circulation, reducing the appearance of fine lines and cellulite.

The Advantages of HBO Therapy

There is a range of potential benefits for those choosing the HBO Therapy treatment

Non-Invasive

HBO therapy is non-invasive, pain-free and can actually be a very comforting and enjoyable treatment; there are also very few risks involved.

Promote the Body’s Natural Absorption of Oxygen

It is an excellent choice of therapy for anyone looking for both short- and long-term benefits. This is because not only does it increase oxygen levels in the body during the treatments, but it also promotes the body’s natural absorption of oxygen, meaning oxygen levels remain higher even after a course of treatments has finished.

Promote Your Overall Health and Wellbeing

While HBO therapy is often used to treat particular medical conditions, it also promotes your overall health and wellbeing. This makes it an excellent choice of therapy for anybody looking for a little extra ‘boost’ in their self-care or anti-ageing routine.
